LEED Silver in Action
Griffin EnerG is proud to have partnered with the University of Utah to improve the Rice-Eccles Stadium South Endzone (SEZ). As a stadium that has been in operation since 1927 for football games, Winter Olympics, and other special events, the Clark Building in the Endzone requires replacing.
In order to meet current building codes, live up to recruiting standards, and improve guests’ experiences, a feasibility study was conducted on the South Endzone (SEZ). Based on the data, it was determined that new facilities could be developed to enhance spectator and recruiting opportunities at the SEZ with a positive return on investment through the creation of approximately five thousand additional seats (including premium seating and club amenities).
LEED certification is awarded in four levels: Certified (40-49 pts), Silver (50-59 pts), Gold (60-79 pts), and Platinum (80+ pts). The level achieved depends on the number of points earned across various categories, including:
- HVAC
- Lighting
- Building Management System
- Systems Monitoring and Alarm
- Security
- Durability
- Longevity
The SEZ building at Rice-Eccles Stadium was designed and constructed to meet the State of Utah High Performance Building Standard and achieve LEED Silver Certification.
Water conservation and recycling will be taken into consideration for the improvement plan, as will providing direct/indirect daylight and improved indoor air quality for staff workstations.
